Appium Capabilities



Appium Capabilities

Desired capabilities are a set of keys and values sent to the Appium server to tell the server what kind of automation session we’re interested in starting up. There are also various capabilities which can modify the behavior of the server during automation.

For example, we might set the "platformName" capability to Appium whether connect to iOS or Appium.
If we give platformName as "iOS" Appium will work on iOS device.
If we give platformName as "Android" Appium will work on Android device.

Similarly many Appium capabilities are defined, some commonly used are:

automationName : Which automation engine to use
platformName : Which mobile OS platform to use
platformVersion : Mobile OS version
deviceName : The kind of mobile device or emulator to use
app : identification for app
browserName :  name of the browser on which test to execute
newCommandTimeout : Time Appium would wait before quiting
autoLaunch : Appium lanuches app automatically
language : Language to be used
udid : unique key to identify device
orientation : What orientation to use "landscape" "potrait"
noReset : Don't reintall app, just open it
fullReset : Uninstall app and clearing all data
